10 Ways to Help Others in Quarantine

  1. Connect Through Video FaceTime, zoom, or Skype friends or family members...even if you don't connect with them regularly! Everyone is craving some interaction and it will mean a lot for them to hear from you.

  2. Offer to Run Errands or pick up groceries for people who do not want to leave their homes. If you are making a run to the pharmacy or grocery store, text neighbors or older relatives and see if they need anything. Drop it off on their porch and text them that it is there.
  3. Little Surprises I know you heard me say this before...but chalk up your neighbor's driveway! If you don't have chalk, leave them a painted rock on their front step or a note in their mailbox. Any little token saying, "Hi! I see you over there!" can be really helpful at such an isolating time.
  4. Pray I know it sounds simple but it really does make a HUGE difference in your mental attitude and in the lives of those you pray for. Make it a habit to do everyday. Thank God for your blessings, pray for those hurting and those struggling with anxiety and fear.
  5. Bring Treats If you like to bake...make some extras and drop them off on someone's porch. It will brighten the day for both of you.
  6. Send a Card You can send a real card or a virtual card to let others know you are thinking about them. My favorite postcard app is called Ink. On the app you can design the front of a postcard, even using photos from your phone, then write on the back. When you are finished, the company will mail out the card to the address you provided. They even have quarantine themed cards!
  7. Participate in Neighborhood Scavenger Hunts My neighborhood is doing the "heart hunt" where we put hearts on our front door or front window for people to see when they are out for a walk. Check the app Nextdoor to see what scavenger hunts are happening near you.
  8. Buy Gift Cards Many restaurants are struggling right now. If you pick up food, consider picking up a gift card you can use after quarantine. Gift cards are a great way to support restaurants and businesses during this uncertain time.
  9. Donate Blood Blood banks are dangerously low. If you are able, visit Versiti (near ML) to donate blood and save lives.
  10. Encourage Faith Be an example! Ask your friends or family members if they "attended" online church on Sunday. Share the link to the ML chapel. Faith can really help us get through these uncertain times. Reminding others that God is in control might be just what our friends and family members need. Who are you going to reach out to today?
